BREAKING: Donald Trump publicly trashed Senator Thom Tillis as “weak,” a “RINO,” and a “quitter” — but Tillis fired back with one of the most brutal Republican rebukes Trump has faced in years.

Trump kicked things off Friday morning with a furious Truth Social rant aimed directly at the North Carolina senator after Tillis refused to fully fall in line behind him.

The former president mocked Tillis for stepping away from another Senate campaign, claiming he lacked the courage to fight for reelection and insisting that without Trump’s endorsement, Tillis had no path to victory anyway.

Trump even bragged that the senator’s retirement announcement came immediately after learning he wouldn’t receive Trump’s support, ending the post by calling Tillis a “quitter.”

But Tillis didn’t stay silent.

Instead, he responded with a lengthy statement that ripped apart key figures in Trump’s orbit and openly challenged several MAGA priorities.

Tillis criticized proposals related to January 6 defendants, arguing taxpayers should not be forced to fund compensation connected to people convicted over the Capitol attack. He also went after several Trump allies by name, accusing them of promoting reckless or unserious policy ideas.

On housing policy, Tillis slammed what he described as bad economic planning disguised as conservatism.

On Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Tillis accused the administration of backing government-heavy economic policies that sound far more like state control than free-market conservatism.

And when discussing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Tillis condemned what he sees as damaging decisions involving military leadership and the administration’s approach toward Russia and Ukraine.

Then came the line that instantly exploded online:

“If standing against these things makes me a RINO, then fine — I’ll wear the label proudly.”

Tillis warned Republicans that political distractions and extreme rhetoric are hurting the party’s chances heading into November.

The exchange exposed something Republicans rarely show publicly anymore: open rebellion against Trump from inside their own party.

With months still left in his Senate term, Tillis appears completely unafraid to challenge Trump head-on — and MAGA world is clearly furious about it.
