Donald Trump thought he had found yet another way to turn the federal government into his personal ATM.
This time, it involved a shocking $1.8 BILLION fund that critics say could be used to hand out taxpayer money to political allies, January 6 supporters, and loyalists under the ridiculous banner of fighting “weaponization.”
But a federal judge just slammed the brakes on the whole operation.
The court issued a temporary block preventing the money from being distributed while the legality of the fund is reviewed. Translation? Trump doesn’t get to start writing billion-dollar checks to his political friends just yet.
And here’s what makes this even more outrageous.
Congress never authorized this program.
The Constitution gives Congress the power of the purse, not Donald Trump. Yet critics argue this fund was designed to bypass normal democratic safeguards and create a political rewards system financed by American taxpayers.
Representative Jamie Raskin didn’t hold back, calling it a blatant abuse of congressional authority and warning that it could amount to rewarding people involved in efforts to undermine American democracy.
Even more interesting? Reports suggest some Republicans are becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the idea. Apparently, there are limits to what some lawmakers are willing to defend.
Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom is already talking about aggressively targeting any California recipient of these funds with state taxation measures.
The legal challenge comes from a broad coalition that includes former federal officials, civic organizations, local governments, and advocacy groups. Their argument is simple:
No president gets to invent a billion-dollar political compensation program without congressional approval.
Imagine the outrage if any Democratic president tried something remotely similar.
Fox News would be running emergency specials 24 hours a day.
Republicans would be screaming “constitutional crisis” from every rooftop in America.
But when Trump does it, we’re told it’s perfectly normal.
Fortunately, at least one federal judge wasn’t buying it.
This isn’t the final ruling, but it’s a major setback for a president who seems determined to test every legal boundary he can find.
The bigger question is this:
How many times does Trump have to be stopped by the courts before his supporters admit that maybe—just maybe—the problem isn’t everyone else?
